Atlanta, GA – November 21, 2024 – Sunrise Trading, a leading provider of ethically sourced Peruvian coffee, is pleased to announce that its CEO, Andrew Shook, has been interviewed for a new micro-documentary produced by Kennesaw State University student Gwen Samford. The film, titled "Human Before Capital," explores the complexities of labor exploitation overseas and the challenges faced by businesses striving to implement ethical practices.

The 5-minute short film delves into the systemic obstacles that even well-intentioned companies encounter when attempting to ensure fair treatment of workers in their supply chains. It also explores potential solutions and strategies for promoting ethical labor practices in a globalized economy.

Gwen Samford chose to interview Andrew Shook due to Sunrise Trading's dedicated efforts toward sustainability and ethical sourcing within the coffee industry. The interview covers:

  • The hurdles and difficulties encountered in operating a sustainable business.
  • Actionable steps other businesses can take to improve labor conditions in their supply chains.

"We are honored to have been included in this important project," said Andrew Shook, CEO of Sunrise Trading. "I appreciate being a part of a conversation that will allow people to be exposed to fair trade and sustainability practices, and to further create awareness for the exploitation of workers overseas. I was very impressed by Gwen’s ability to produce a short film with such powerful messaging. At Sunrise Trading, we are committed to upholding the fair trade standard and supporting the hard working women and men who cultivate our exceptionally tasteful coffee."
